The Power of Choice- Our God Given Birthright- and our Responsibility

Greetings Fellow Travelers

How are you this fine day?

Thank you for choosing to read this article. You could have chosen to mow the lawn or eat some cereal or put the cat in the microwave, but you didn't. So, sit back and relax, while I present to you some of my thoughts on life.

Our lives are not on a rail, pre-destined or pre-determined. Oh yes, there is a plan. Let's use a house as an example.

An architect sits down at a huge table with a light at the end of a stalk so it can be aimed- and about a thousand pencils. I know, a lot of that stuff, if not all these days, is done on a computer, but you get the idea. Lines are placed to designate where the living room will be, how big it is, where the doors and windows will end up, lights, wall dimensions and even where electrical outlets will be.

The same goes for every other room, including the garage, if the plans include one.

Then the builder gets these plans and uses them to buy materials, hire workers and craftsmen, and sets a schedule for construction.

What some may not realize is that no matter how detailed the plans are, or how many times the word "MUST" is written along the margins, that builder can do whatever he wants. If he wants to build the garage at a 30 degree angle to the house he can. Should he desire to place a toilet on the roof he could.

And, just as the goober who would do such things would get into a lot of trouble, so do we. Our lives don't make sense, we can't seem to live up to our own expectations or those of others. Nothing seems to fit.

We have the power to allow God to fulfill His plan for us or we can take over and put the kitchen in the attic with no sink. That would get you into some sort of magazine I'm sure but would hardly be functional.

And yet, God could take such a mix-up and fix it, or make it work.

The only real variable is our openness to His plan.

So, I leave you with this question- Where is YOUR kitchen?

p.s. DON'T put the cat in the microwave, but not because it might ruin the flavor. It's just wrong!

Well, I agree we do have choices, but they are limited.

Rosa Parks made a decision to sit at the front of the bus yes, but if she were white she wouldn't have. It was because she was black and tired of being treated subordinate to the white race that motivated her actions.

It's the same with choosing what we eat. There are times I may wonder what I am going to eat for dinner and each item I come across in my cabinets just doesn't appeal to me at the time, bit then I stumble upon something I FEEL like eating. It's not that I consciously chose to eat that particular food, instead my feeling of what I wanted to eat took control of my choice.

As for your example of the architect, they are limited by the materials and tools of their time - Making their decisions limited. Years ago two men would take opposite ends of a long saw and rhythmically cut logs for their homes. Today we have manufactured wood, power tools, and an array of furnishings to compliment it's completion.

Did I choose not to have God in my life? Maybe! But the fact that he is unproven, is more likely why I "chose" to say he doesn't exist.

One can almost always choose to find more choices, right?

The crux of my article is the plan, and choosing to work against it, not materials available or canned ravioli versus ramen noodles. Still, I see your point.

The fact that you see God as a "Choice" tells me that you know He does exist.

Hello Bro-Bro,

I love this - as I always love your creative way of making a great point. I pray that my kitchen is exactly where God wants it to be. It is such a blessing to watch you grow and become stronger in your faith. God has always been working, but as you say there is choice. Sometimes we are the victims of others who choose evil, but it does not mean God is not there, he fixes everything if we allow him to. I praise God for our friendship. Blessings to you!
