The Common Fallacy of Hutaree and the Westboro Baptist Church

Greetings Fellow Travelers

If I wasn't on any government watch-list for sites I've visited, I sure am now. I just spent a few minutes on the Hutaree site.

I never went past the home page but that was enough. What attracted my attention first was the video player. I clicked on it and was entertained by a couple of minutes of guys duded up in full camo complete with painted faces. They were moving around a forest setting seeking out, well, whatever, and at least once tripping over a log and assuming a face-saving prone position.

After that delightful piece I ventured over to another video, "Bunker Talk, with your host, Christian." Now, Christian talked about freedom and quoted verses from the Bible, while hiding behind large, dark sunglasses and a helmet, with a bandana over the rest of his face. In other words, completely covered up.

He was in a corner with one wall holding a confederate flag and the other a swastika flag. Remember, he was talking about freedom.

However crazy that seems, he does have that right. I would never have seen it had I not voluntarily visited their website.

Have you heard of the Westboro Baptist Church? I Googled them and found their site. It's not called anything resembling what I expected. It's God Hates Fags dot com. There are links there to several other sites/pages, all just as horrid. These are the folks who protest at the funerals of soldiers holding signs that say wretched and miserable slogans about how God delights in the death of a warrior.

This is one of their signs.

What is the common fallacy? That stockpiling weapons along with para-military training and slinging homophobic tripe in order to gain media attention is either God's will or a means to effect proper change. Such groups are more likely to be simple-minded pawns for a government pushing its way into the personal lives of its citizens while eroding their personal freedoms.

Full grown men firing automatic weapons at nothing while having your children carrying a sign stating "You will Eat Your Babies" is not only moronic and morbidly disrespectful it is profoundly counter-productive.

Don't get me wrong. Washington DC needs to be completely turned inside out. However, the only way to do that is at the polling booth.

The goobers that are there now will use the antics of Hutaree and the Westboro Baptist Church to write new laws to control Americans like never before.

To Hutaree I say this. Keep your guns. Play with them on the weekends, but the rest of the time campaign for change in a civil manner. You're not gonna like this but you need to emulate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He, along with millions of others, took it to the streets and made real change happen.

You have a right to have your guns. You have the right to form a local militia. However, making an Al Quaeda-like video with a swastika behind you tells me you're coming from a bad place.

To the Westboro Baptist Church folks. God does not hate homosexuals, He hates homosexuality. "For God so LOVED the world," not "HATES." You are doing such horrible damage to your children. Your hatred is not from God. Admit it, already. It is reprehensible what you do at a funeral. You have a right to Free Speech, but you do not have the right to hassle a grieving family.

To both Hutaree and WBC- Knock it off. You're only making things easier for an oppressive government to act against its people. We still have a voice. We still have a vote. We still have a means to protest.

Jesus says "Lift ME up, and I will draw all men to Me."

If you are truly Christian, you will do just that.

It's been said that freedom to own guns will insure more freedom. We'll see. Look where it's heading. We have to realize that we are talking about people who aren't dealing with a full deck, yet brandish dangerous ideologies, as well as unrestricted weapons.

"Only criminals will have guns?" How about "Only the insane fundamentalists will have guns?" This could be the murmurings of the next Civil War. How sane can one be that  establishes a militia? Think about it. Ask a psychologist.

How many members of congress "brandish dangerous ideologies?"

We're not talking about gangs roaming the streets, shooting each other or innocent by-standers. "How sane can one be" who expects our government NOT to take away all of our rights if not kept in check?

My point is to limit the governments insane tactics,( i.e. raising taxes to fund debt, dissolving civil liberties in the name of protection), by the means available, and the best one at hand is the vote.

Thank you for your comment. Thank you for exercising your rights, given to you by our troops- and our local militias.

Hmm. I thought our government was kept in check by voting. And that my right to vote is given to me by the constitution? Maybe guns are the answer, like Iraq? Or maybe this whole idea of state's rights and anti government sentiment is nothing more than crybaby Southern states that can't get over the Civil War and still is steeped in bigotry and hatred? White supremacy? The South shall rise again? Unbelievable stupidity. Do you live in a southern state?

Your response is dripping with hatred and fear. Relax.

Ken, you are exactly right. People like that, along with those who bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors who perform abortions, are a major threat to the very ideals they claim to stand for. But, unfortunately, they'll never learn.

No, Terry, they likely won't, and that's unfortunate.

Thanks for stopping by.

Ken, very well stated. I always say this with regard to certain militias (those who drool at anarchy) and other extreme hatriots: 'If you have to convince me at the point of a gun, you cannot convince me'.

Great job.

"Hatriots?" I LOVE it!

"Those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still!"

Ulterior motives have no place in politics, yet here they are.

Thanks, Michael.

Weapons are the tools of violence;

all decent men detest them.

Weapons are the tools of fear;

a decent man will avoid them

except in the direst necessity

and, if compelled, will use them

only with the utmost restraint.

Peace is his highest value.

If the peace has been shattered,

how can he be content?

His enemies are not demons,

but human beings like himself.

He doesn't wish them personal harm.

Nor does he rejoice in victory.

How could he rejoice in victory

and delight in the slaughter of men?

He enters a battle gravely,

with sorrow and with great compassion,

as if he were attending a funeral.

When rich speculators prosper

While farmers lose their land;

when government officials spend money

on weapons instead of cures;

when the upper class is extravagant and irresponsible

while the poor have nowhere to turn-

all this is robbery and chaos.

It is not in keeping with the Tao.

Excellent piece Ken - the enemy is alive, well and traveling under many different guises trying to give a "black eye" to true followers of Jesus. Thanks for this article. Marijo
