A Message from Reality Man – What Really, Really, Killed the Dinosaurs. No, Really.

Greetings Fellow Travelers ...

I just got off the phone with Reality Man. He could barely talk, he was laughing so hard. Seems his morning visit with the internet landed him on a page with shocking and earth-moving news. Scientists now know what really killed the dinosaurs. For real, this time.

Here's a link to the story.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100304/sc_nm/us_dinosaurs_asteroid

Now, "the only plausible explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs" is an asteroid strike.

Please follow the link above to read the full story, and I mean STORY!

The article, like so many, if not all, of the "theory" writings, contains a positively resolute statement of definite uncertainty. "we now have great confidence." I was devastated not to see a few of my favorites, such as:

"The evidence clearly points to the possibility," or

"we feel" or

"we believe."

I'm not going to get into a debate on Creation vs Evolution here. My view is well known. The point is this.

The lions share of current scientific thinking is based on "evidence" which was flawed from the beginning because it was based on assumptions and conjecture, then presented and accepted as fact.

Now, scientific research has grown into a "who can write the best paper" and "which theory is the most sensationalistic," both of which work hand-in-hand to promote the discovering scientists and their views, which leads to income. Does anyone still hold a need for accuracy? I could become famous and sell a million books if I could provide the world with enough "sound" reasoning as to why 2 now equals 3.

Think about it. Every calculator in the world would be wrong. Banks would fold and countries collapse, just to feed my ego.

What will happen because of this "new" assertion from the scientific community?

Hopefully nothing. What could happen? Textbooks will have to be re-written and re-purchased by financially strapped school districts. The talk show circuit will be ran and Larry King, of course will be put into service for the cause.

Then there's the merchandising. Lunch boxes and coloring books and cartoons for the kids, a new dance move and ring tones for the adults.

Listen, in order for a structure to be strong it must be built on a solid foundation. The same goes for scientific "fact." So many variables have been accepted by modern science as fact that no one knows what is real anymore, as far as "theory" goes. Their "confidence" means nothing.

Get back to basics. Stop trying to make shocking discoveries and concentrate on discovery itself. Resist the temptation to find a tooth, or what looks like a tooth, and create entire civilizations from it.

Let's focus our resources on where we're going, rather than where we've been.

Reality Man says, "Fill in the gaps with fact, then come to a conclusion. Don't ever think that what might be could ever be as important as what is ."

Great articles. Well done.

Scientist like to be very reserved about their ideas. Give the press an inch and they take a mile. It takes along time before scientists are willing to say that they are certain as the amount of research needed is mind blowing.

You may be interested to know that there are certain branches of mathematics where two really does equal three. Or it also does in maths jokes like:

2+3 when:
a + b = c
2a - 3a + 2b - 3b = 2c - 3c
2a + 2b - 2c = 3a + 3b - 3c
2 * (a+b-c) = 3 * (a+b-c)
Thus 2=3

I'm not so sure about that, Connor. These guys seemed to be quite eager to talk about their "conclusions."

Thanks for stopping by.

The last line of your article says it all. Very nicely done, Reality Man.

By the way, when you get a superhero suit, will you have RM on the front or just R? Just wondering . . .

Actually, I'm leaning towards a tattoo on my chest, surrounded by flames.

Thank you, Michael. Keep a weather eye for the RM signal!
