Murder and Sexual Assault- Can We Assure Justice?

Greetings Fellow Travelers ...

My article today is the result of a macabre meandering of different trains of thought, brought on by a movie and the daily headlines that inundate our good senses.

As a child I suffered years of tormentia in the form of various types of currently "trendy" abuse. What does that mean? Violators can get away with their crimes due to status or a relationship with a societal icon of some sort.

Often, they get away with it because of abject indifference.

Would it be wrong to hope my murderer is at this moment burning in hell? Jesus teaches us to forgive, and he did die for us- voluntarily. Would we enjoy salvation if He had been dragged to the cross kicking and screaming? What if He not only resisted but tried to make a deal to avoid crucifixion?

And was killed anyway?

What are the thoughts of God when something like this is happening?

I feel that the consensus of the people in our society is a preference to let a guilty murderer loose over the possibility of executing an innocent person. Also, that someone who confesses to a crime is as likely to be only seeking attention as not,(see the previous sentence).

So, what do we do? What is the level of proof needed to take someones life for their crime? I know I had daydreams of killing my abuser. I knew- was assured- of the guilt.

However, that could be used by a criminal to kill someone for sport.

A very painful conundrum.

Where is the justice?

Justice ... is eternal. Justice is exacted by He who truly understands it.

I once was told that the best revenge is living well. I can assure you now- that is a fact.

I refused to allow myself to pass the abuse on. Granted, I had, and have, emotional issues and scars to deal with on a daily basis. Sometimes I sit depressed, backed into a cave to recuperate and revitalize.

But only for a little while. Before long I emerge, victorious and joyful, ready for the next big challenge. Ready to be happy.

I fire up my laptop and write. I create worlds and invite everyone to enjoy them, worlds that are fun, sometimes scary- but always safe.

The murderer's blood stained soul must pass into eternity bound for a special hell just for them.

If you are reading this piece looking for answers I must apologize. I have only one.

A sexual predator and a murderer are exactly the same. They are destroyers, and will be destroyed.

I am a builder of dreams, whose dreams will be built.

Justice.

Thanks for writing down you "meandering thoughts". There are many such conundrums in life, no?

All destroyers are destroyed, eventually. Well-done and very personal, Ken. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you, Michael. It was written during one of the "dark" periods. I'm having very few of them these days!

I never heard: the best revenge is living well--love it! I agree that molesters are destroyers but there are those that refuse to, or through help, or some type of intervention , go on and do not get destroyed. And then there are those who become like you, a builder...outstanding.

Thank you so much, Steve. I firmly believe the after-life holds the greatest punishment for these people.

Ken,

Gosh, this is a tough one.  I've written and erased; written and erased.  I do agree that the best revenge is living well but what about justice for the abuser and the fact that he/she may be continuing to hurt others?

Much food for thought, Ken, thanks.  Glad to know that you are able to bounce back and always good to read you.

Justice is the problem. That is what sparked this article.

If the abused can feel that he or she is not to blame for what happened society will have taken a profound leap forward. Sadly, in most crimes, the victim is still seen as being contributory at the very least, if not blamed outright.

Thank you very much, Nancy. I really appreciate your support.

This is a tough one - what if the accused repents? Great article, thoughtfully written and it causes your reader to think about much. Marijo

If the accused repents- truly, repents- the problem essentially goes away. What usually happens is the violator is only sorry for being caught. Have you ever watched the "To Catch a Predator" reports?

Thank you, Marijo. I am grateful for your taking the time to read and comment.
