Greetings Fellow Travelers ...
Once again I pour out my heart to you, dear reader. Lately I have been fascinated, maybe obsessed, with eagles.
It's been going on for years but was kicked into high gear by two things. One, the incredible shots of eagles flying free and resting on boats and hillsides on the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" program.
The other, and a much more personal event, was when we were at Disney World a couple of years ago. My wife Janie and I had cut away from the pack to watch a show where birds were the stars.
They had handlers with all kinds of birds. Parrots and others would fly around taking money out of the hands of audience members. It was a great show.
Then the mood changed. One handler brought out an eagle- an American Bald Eagle. The crowd hushed as if the very air that allowed them to speak had been drawn out of their, our, chests.
The magnificent creature did no tricks, it just- was- sitting on the arm of the young lady and looking around, totally aware of its own splendor.
Something stirred inside me, and has not stopped to this very day, and shows no sign of ever ceasing.
I must travel to see these birds in their element, and Janie will be with me.
The following poem is inspired by the eagle, and dedicated to my Father and Mother-in-law.
Lifetimes
There had been a meeting when
Feather had barely set
Male and Female
Created He them
And Love was theirs for life.
Two Eagles barely mature
Enough to fly from
Danger set out on a journey
That would take a
Lifetime
Strong is their
Bond that has brought
Children into the
Fray that
Life has become.
But much more a
Dance of Joy only
Shared by
Two hearts that
Beat as one.
Too soon comes the
Day when
Two hearts become
One body yearning for the
Other
United and free
Love once again
Soars above the
Earth in a dance that will never
End.

Great writing; very descriptive. This reminded me of the scripture, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles."David, that scripture is almost always on my mind these days. Sometime I wonder if I'm being haunted by John Denver!Thank you so much for reading and responding.
Ken, it is like reading an imagination, I love it. Thanks for sharing.Thank you, Dr. My own "wings" are flexing, I believe.
Eagles have always been a symbol for freedom and control of a medium which is foreign to us. They capture our imagination. They do have their own frequency, don't they?Thank you for reading and responding
Ken, I share the passion, not only for Eagles, but for other majestic birds of the Mississippi Gulf Coast; the Pelican, the Blue Heron. I delight in watching them.I love birds too, but, the eagle has taken on a profound meaning in my life. I'm just not sure, exactly, what to do with it.Thank you for the comment.
Very good article, Ken. I could picture the crowd quieting as the eagle was brought out. And your wife's picture is perfect! What a great trip it would be to search out this amazing bird. I enjoyed your poetry also. 2 thumbs up!Thank you, Lorrie."You know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly," from "Rocky Mountain High" by John Denver pretty much sums it up.
Very beautiful bro! I agree with David. Blessings and prayers are with you and for you and janie! Beautiful picture Janie!Thank you, Sis!
hi ken,you have grown as a writer, as i think we all have, but i think it's nice to let someone know you have witnessed growth.i know i write a lot differently than when i started.this was beautiful, and i was glad to be able to go to a nice place as i envisioned what you were saying. the poem and the picture were a nice touch, and i include the poem in my comment.good job, keep making it happen,my best to you, sueWe die when we stop growing, right?Thank you so much, Sue. That was the highlight of the trip for me. That bird really got me going.
Great article. Well done.Eagles have always had a part in books, culture and oddly politics. It is our national bird, and a symbol of our nation. If our leaders could take on the sensibility of an eagle we would be in much better shape. Thanks, Connor, for reading and commenting.
