Greetings Fellow Travelers ...
There I was at 0130 looking at a photograph of a colorful bird that graces the hallway of the ICU at my new primary job. An opportunity presented itself that will help me retire earlier and therefore be able to write more, so I took it. But not without some issues.
I'm now in the RT department downstairs, about 3 minutes later and thinking about that bird. Its wings are some color and its feet another color and its beak yet another.
What I can't seem to not forget is that its head seems way too big, or its body way too small.
Such is the feeling of a wonderful opportunity.
Ok, I went back to take another look. The little bugger is almost entirely grey and it has a crest on its little birdie noggin, which does away with the "big head" image. I can't describe how disappointed I am.
Such is the feeling of a wonderful opportunity.
The orientation has gone well so far. The procedures are basically the same but the documentation is completely different. I have worked with this system before, so it too is going well- after a refresher course of instruction. I am pleased with my progress in the face of escalating levels of homesickness.
Such is the feeling of a wonderful opportunity.
There is a palpable difference in how the staff is treating me. The person in charge of my orientation is confident in my skills as a respiratory therapist and is stepping in only when I need him to. Some of the other RTs, however, seem to fear that pushing the wrong button on the rolling laptop will ignite an all consuming explosion- in other words, "you'll just mess it up. Let ME do it for you.".
Such is the feeling of a wonderful opportunity.
Thinking about the time I'll have with my wife when we've achieved our goals much earlier than previously expected; now there's an incentive.
Writin' and ridin' will be our occupation.-no schedules, maybe just a deadline now and again. No debt at all and a nice little nest egg.
Now THAT'S the feeling of a wonderful opportunity.!

The bird picture was my way of learning the "lay of the land" at a new job. I appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to read.

I can relate and often think in terms like you described.I think it was a good move on your part and a step in the right direction for your long-term objective. In no time at all it will be behind you and old hatEnjoyed this much,NancyNancy, thank you so much. It means a lot to have you go back and "dig up" some of the older stuff.
