The Amulet- part II

The only thing left from his uniform was the patch that identified him as a transit cop, and it was faded beyond recognition. The layers of clothing he had accumulated over the years had been worn away and not replaced, merely covered over with new layers, all of which were soaked and dried with alternating showers of sweat, rain and blood.

Everyone that the old man had tried to sell the amulet to stayed at least ten feet away, driven back by the stench of neglect and a general disregard for humanity, but most just never saw him. But she did.

Her eyes held that same glow, that same twinkle they did when she first laid eyes on him, some 275 years earlier. She being the daughter of a rich landowner and he being the son of a sharecropper meant no relationship would ever be allowed to flourish, but flourish it did. Before it was over there would be a secret marriage, a spontaneous abortion and a murder. But that was then.

Now she looked upon him as if he were the knight that had just rescued her from the fire-breathing dragon. His look was that of utter confusion, as if he should know something but didn't. Her lower lip was gently bitten in the human females coy and irresistible manner, that element of body language that drove the male of the species to glorious abandonment of all sense.

His gaze evolved to understanding as she placed his left hand over her left hand, encompassing the glowing amulet. The years of starving homelessness drifted away, bringing youth to his features and generating white and amber sparks, which began as a ribbon-like flow from their joined hands and grew in number until the young couple became encased.

The former transit cop, a fine example of modern law enforcement, felt like he was awakening from a drug induced coma, like the doc had given him the good stuff for his surgery. The was old, now young eyes blinked against the bright sun that shone through a perfect blue sky. His lungs filled with the clean, fresh country air that he was bathing in, and his nose rejoiced at the smell of newly cut hay.

His mind began to race against the absence of the sounds of mechanized insanity. The engines of cars and buses were the last sounds he remembers, but where were they? Where was he? Looking around all he could see was countryside, pure and unmolested countryside, the entire area drenched in the early morning sun, except for the shade he was in under a magnificent oak. Then he saw her.

She was walking towards him with a pail filled to the brim with water from a spring. Her bare feet pressed lightly on the grass as she approached. He watched her lips beginning to speak and would not have been shocked to hear angels singing.

" You've been asleep for a while, my love," she said.

hi ken,

okay-you've got it. you have to write a book.

the commandment of words is amazing. the content is relatable and one wants to cheer on. interesting concept, picturesque words to enlighten the scenes, very well done. i was lost in the story and wanted to know what was going to happen. i don't think you can get any better than that as a writer. you should be very proud of yourself.

i'm proud of you,

my best regards,

sue

Well done Ken, I was wondering how part two would begin and end, and I wasn't disappointed...ya need to write a book....you have that flair that keeps one hanging on to the next chapter of whats going to happen next...Your composition of sentences and words, the Teasers if you will, keeps one affixed to your riveting story....I'm off to read part III, and know that I will enjoy it....by the way, I could smell the hay....and see the scenes, as an actor, this would be the best of the best of compliments....I get dibs on playing the role of the Transit Cop!!! Great story, and well done my talented friend.....Your fan, and friend......Gary (I wish I could give you a 10 on this)!!
